Mark Stone

Mark Stone is a Rochester NY / FLX- based abstract artist using hard edges and bright colors to create dynamic compositions that evoke movement and energy.

Originally a native of Detroit, Michigan, Mark attended the prestigious College for Creative Studies and holds a BFA in Art Direction. Following a chapter in Northern California, his path led him to Rochester in the early 2000s—where he found not just work, but a lasting sense of place in the Finger Lakes region he now proudly calls home.

His work is deeply influenced by his background as a Creative Director, where precision, structure, and intentionality shape the visual language he brings to each painting. Working with acrylics on wooden panels, Mark explores the balance between control and spontaneity, leveraging bold color fields to guide the viewer’s eye through a rhythmic interplay of form and space.

For Mark, creativity lives in two modes: play and precision. First comes digital experimentation—an exploration of sketches and possibilities. Then, with clarity in hand, he transitions to the hands-on craft, translating ideas onto birch panels with practiced exactness.

At first glance, his pieces echo the precision of digital prints. Close up, they unfold—revealing the tactile signatures of the hand, the layered textures, the irregularities, the soul. Each work balances refinement with rawness, machine-like clarity with unmistakable humanity.
