NEW SPECIAL EXHIBITION
"Changing of the Guard", plein air oil by Kari Ganoung Ruiz
Kari Ganoung Ruiz: Spring Special Exhibition
Kari is the featured guest artist at Pittsford Fine Art, from though June 26. Her work, alongside that of the gallery’s 13 owner-operators, will be on display throughout that time, with an official kickoff during the First Friday event on April 1.
On April 30, Ruiz will give a free demonstration at Pittsford Fine Art at 11 a.m. The same day, she will offer a workshop, for a fee, from 1:30 to 4:30, with instruction and plein air painting along the Erie Canal in the village. More info.
Ruiz, who was raised at the edge of the Finger Lakes National Forest and now lives in Interlaken, Seneca County, has a natural affinity for landscapes, ranging from the Finger Lakes to the national parks of the American West. “I have recently found myself intrigued by small bits of the greater scene,” Ruiz said. “Corner of a building, edge of a marsh, little glimpse down that narrow path. I prefer to capture these moments en plein air, to represent the essence of that something that made me stop and go back.”
Ruiz’s awards include best of show at the Finger Lakes Plein Air Festival in 2017, first place in the quick-draw contest at the Lighthouse Plein Air Festival in Florida in 2018, and grand prizes at the Two Rivers Plein Air Festival in Texas in 2019, the 2020 Adirondack Plein Air show, and the 2021 Monuments and Canyons Plein Air show in Colorado.
