NEW SPECIAL EXHIBITION
“Cherry Blossoms”, watercolor by Yong Hong Zhong
Yong Hong Zhong: Summer Special Exhibition
For eight years, the Finger Lakes Plein Air Competition and Festival attracted renowned artists from across the nation to paint scenes from this region’s natural beauty. The festival no longer takes place, but one cross-country visitor who competed multiple times — and once won best of show — loved our area so much he considers its resident artists “my family.”
The artists who run Pittsford Fine Art constitute part of that family, which is why Portland, Oreg. watercolorist Yong Hong Zhong will be the gallery’s featured guest exhibiting his work for three months this summer, starting July 1. Zhong, a former artist for Walt Disney Company and MTV Animation Studios who competes in plein air competitions across the country, is known for his spontaneous, glowing watercolors. His paintings of landscapes, cityscapes and florals are sublime examples of how simple paint and paper can be used to express emotion and the beauty of light.
Zhong says, “Being able to convey my emotions through my paintings gives me a sense of creative freedom and fulfillment. It allows me to share with others what touches me, what inspires me and what moves me.”
Meet Zhong at the opening of his show on “First Friday”, July 1, from 6 – 8 p.m. and watch him give a live watercolor demonstration.
Zhong will conduct two watercolor workshops at Pat Rini Rohrer Gallery in Canandaigua, followed by a repeat of those workshops at Pittsford Fine Art on June 30 and July 1. Introduction to Watercolor Workshop takes place June 30 and Advanced Watercolor and Plein Air takes place July 1, or register for both days.
